Located in Shinjuku City in Tokyo, Tonkatsu Fry-ya is known for their perfect lightly fried Tonkatsu chicken. Once descending down the flight of stairs, you’re met with a nice light modern atmospheric interior.
You can choose between their set menu or order individual Michelin Rated dishes. Either way, if you go to this hidden establishment, you must order their Fried Pork Loin, and Fried Chicken Tenderloin. Their finishing dish of curry and fried vegetables(Tempura) were also great standouts of the meal(you’re also given complimentary sauces/salt).
We opted for the set course meal, which consisted of:
- Salad
- Exquisite Chicken Tenderloin(Fry)
- Vegetable Sticks(Not fried)
- Pork Loin(Fry)
- Todays Vegetables(Fry)
- Horse Mackerel(Fry/Sandwich)
- Eye of Round(Fry)
- Palate Cleanser(dashi)
- Todays Vegetables(Fry)
- Seafood(Fry)
- Shabu-Shabu
- Finishing Dish(curry over rice)
- Dessert

We heavily recommend this as it won’t blow your wallet/purse out, but it is a nice relaxing experience with a variety of meal options. Also, the customer service is very kind(wasn’t Jules Vernes level but it works), and makes the experience very enjoyable with friends or family.
Overall, taking into account the price, the customer service, food quality and atmosphere, we give Fry-ya a:
