New York’s Top Eats

This List of Top eats is composed of our crews favorite eats of the city. Our ratings out of five are comprised of multiple factors such as overall experience(Including historical heritage or relevance(as well as vibes of the current location)), taste and specialties. A rating of 5/5 would a restaurant that has immaculate views and experience while maintaining outstanding taste in cuisine. A 4/5 is still amazing in certain aspects but is clearly missing components/step/levels/flavors from/to being the best of the best. Finally, a three out of five rating would mean the restaurant has some decent and enjoyable qualities, but clearly has some flaws that need to be address. Anything below these rating can be judged based off our summary of the restaurant.

This list ranges from historically legendary to quick eats we enjoy whenever we go out for a casual lunch or a high stakes dinner.

Mamoun’s Falafel – Est 1971

htrabs

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, Mamoun’s delivers the original falafel of NYC. Established in 1971 by a Syrian immigrant Mamoun Chater, Mamoun’s is known for the freshly made green Falafels.

Overall, taking into the account the quick and go environment of this historical location of New Yorks first falafel shop, We give Mamoun’s Falafel Shop a rating of:

Mamoun’s Falafel is great as a quick and healthy meal for anyone. It has a decent selection of Middle Eastern options including gyros,

Keens Steakhouse – Est 1885

Although known for their historic Mutton Chop and the world’s largest collection of Pipes, they had other components that are arguably better than the chop itself. Main items such as the Mutton Chop, Filet Mignonette and decent Sirloin Steak were enjoyable, but the Standouts of the meal were surprisingly the deserts and the cream spinach.

But, by far the highlight of our meal at Keen’s was their old fashioned Key Lime Pie and the Red Berry Bibble. Both traditional desserts are made in house and have their own distinct strengths.

The Key Lime Pie has the perfect lime cream consistency while still being based on a nicely toasted graham cracker base. The two consistency’s combined make for the best traditional Key Lime Pie we have tried to date.

The Red Berry Bibble was comprised of strawberry, cranberry and blueberry jam topped with light vanilla cream. If you’re looking for a fruity and fun yet high quality dessert, we recommend the Red Berry Bibble.

In conclusion, taking into the account the historical location and the quality range of foods for a Steak House, we rate Keen’s Steakhouse a solid:

Papaya King – Est 1932

Once We Read Upon the history of Papaya King, we knew we had to add this to our Eat List of New York City. This Icon of the city features an iconic of a hot winger snapper and tropical fruit juice. Originally known as Hawaiian Tropical Drinks, it was founded in 1932 by Constantine “Gus” Poulos who loved papaya juice so much that he decided to found a juice stand that sold Papaya juice. He was layered asked by a customer if they served anything else, which he replied saying he could sell him some hot dogs he had been grilling, and the rest is history. Their original combo comes with a two hot dogs with onions or relish, along with a 16oz of fruit juice(typically papaya juice).

Its long lasting history(despite facing adversity through certain times and locations), Papaya Kings salt and vinegar snapping wiener was the perfect partner to the surprisingly smooth and sweet papaya juice. They complement each other perfectly and are the percent grab an go lunch in the city.

Overall, we rate Papaya King to be:

Restaurant due to its incredible history and its surprisingly excellent pairing of flavors.

Lucali – Est 2006

It’s too outlandish to say Lucali’s is the top eat of New York, and it’s certainly one of the top Pizza joints in the U.S. There pizza has the perfect components of light yet strutted dough with light touches of cheese, tomato and basil. Established in 2006 by Mark Iocono, Lucali’s serves up traditional New York Italian styled Pies in Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn.

Their menu allows additional add-on topping to their basic pie as well as their calzones. Pies come with complementary cloves of basil and their most popular add-on toppings include pepperoni, hot peppers, onions and shallots.

We ordered a split pie including one side of their iconic margarita pie and the other side topped with pepperoni.

Due to their stellar texture and taste, along with them being located in the homely Caroll Gardens, we rate Lucali Pizza to be a:

Ray’s Candy Shop

We end this list with our favorite eat in the City, it may not be the most historical or finest location, but it has its own unique novelties and notorieties. The deep fried Oreos, Iconic egg cream(it’s just seltzer and syrup – miss Alvarez). Its interior impitimizes what New York is, it highlights Rays commitment to serve the community, no matter what food item it is, as long as it is not dangerous, they have proven to deliver said item to their customers.

Once you enter the shop on 113 Avenue A, you’re greeted with a wall lined with new addition after another(option after option), the shop has infinite favorable options that will fit anyone in NY.

Their top items are iconic for a reason, their deep fried Oreos are 100% the best we’ve ever had. The outer shell is soft and homogenous with the inner warm interior of the Oreo. Their beignets aren’t something to overlook as well.

We ordered the black and white Egg Cream(Vanilla and Chocolate) and the 8$ Beignet(10Pc) and Oreo(6oc) Combo. We consider the best item from Ray’s to be their Deep Fried Oreo.

Taking into account the welcoming customer service from Ray and , as well as their community favorite foods. We rate Ray’s Candy Store a:

Blue Sky Deli

It’s the original and the best chopped cheese in New York. They make their classic Chopped Cheese made to order, and you can stroll around the deli shop until your sandwich is ready for you at the counter!

Their customer service is quick and easy to work with and has the snacks you would need to pair with your hoagie!
